Chocolate serves as a special hallmark in every stage of life, bringing with it the memories and creation of traditions.

As a small child sitting at the kitchen table on a crisp afternoon, warming my little hands on a mug of chocolate, a sense of security and family found a home silently within my heart.

Chocolate is truly a special conduit to share love and appreciation.

The Chocolate Theme song

http://youtu.be/m4csLGicSYg

When a Week Equals a Month

Back from nowhere. Everyday and every moment of this last week was like a lifetime. Here it is in bullet point form. Just try and guess the chocolate that was made this evening!
1. Trip to Florida.... Changed reservations 3 times and still did not catch up with my friend from Orlando
2. Stayed with a very intriguing person in Florida for the week
3. Experienced life
4. Learned that I want something more than chocolate
5. Lost a dear friend to a battle with her health
6. Said Good-bye to my son (of course I'll be in Georgia in 9 weeks to see him but it was still hard)
7. Came home to find a surprise Baskin Robins cake in my freezer (and of course I ate it :) Thank you boys!
8. Found that will chocolate remain in the forefront of life and that's ok
9. Reaffirmed I like simple
10. For just a moment, for 5 days, I had a dream come true.... and that's something pretty special.
So the memory of this week will be guarded and delicately cared for within in my heart where it can be looked upon every now and then with respect and gratefulness.

The corresponding chocolate:
Dried cherries (no added sugar), raw almonds, covered in dark dark Belgium chocolate, cooled on a thin rack and scored as a bark.

Rose Colored Glasses

Cocoa Butter Bliss might sum it all up. When people talk about spontaneity I am not sure if they quite understand instaneity. Yes, that is me. Why wait for life to happen... why not live it now? If there is anything I've learned over the years is every moment means something.
In regards to the negatives we encounter, it is just water under the bridge and there are ways to turn the situations. I am not oblivious to the world around me but I tend to create the world I want. I want to be happy, I like happiness. Therefore those around me will gain happiness - even if for a fleeting moment.
I am on my way to Florida and can already imagine the sand beneath my feet, the midnight moon cartwheels, and of course chocolate.
Living with chocolate, the mysterious undercurrent of sensuality and well-being fill my spirit. When I cruise on my blue Schwinn Cruiser along the Columbia river, or simply watching the wind play in the leaves my mind begins to wander. Sitting straight, I can feel my senses awaken as my ponytail gently brushes the sun-kissed skin on my back. With a deep breath I return to the now and smile. Someday my handsome prince will be pleasantly surprised. And yesterday was the end of yet another beginning. The river house is for sale. Kind of bittersweet. For years the kids played along the river's edge, floated down it on long hot summer days, and skidded to a halt just prior to landing in it's frozen water while sledding in the winter. The yard was home to zip-lines, forts, and numerous games of hide and seek. Knights fought desperate battles for days on end, and the dogs were taught to play tether ball. Every spring the year was burnt into a piece of wood by a steady hand and magnified glass. The strawberries and cherries were eaten; the almonds were harvested.
During the long winter nights hand written games of charades were played, movies were filmed, and the hum of laughter drifted in the air. Books were read, homework was done, fights were fought. Fireworks launched, snowmen rolled, and splinters caught.
Laying on the couch of my tiny apartment preparing myself for my oldest to catch the Army's bus. I hear only the sound of the refrigerator's fan distantly cut through the silence. Tonight is a chocolate night. A smooth and creamy milk slowly melting in my mouth. Blanketing the memories; storing them gently away.

A Simple Memory

This past weekend was a very interesting mix of life. For the most part I sat at a county fair with my friend Debbie (who is just starting a fudge company and is learning very quickly).
I watched people take delight in the midway and mechanical bull rides. As usual I wore a dress and sat quietly in the background. I was serenaded twice by several cowboys and ate greasy BBQ and fudge (I still feel sick).
After a day and a half at the fair I traveled north to a gourmet wine and food fair/auction where $3-5,000 cases of wine and art were going out the door.. As I was leaving a man strolling along the sidewalk stopped to ask to take my picture. I gave him my email and asked for a copy. He sent me the picture.. after cropping me out of Washington by placing me in front of a Hawaiian landscape.
Intermixed with the incredible contrast of environments I was sketched in a portrait and received an offer to move to South Africa....
Then after a looooooong evening my phone rang. I was right in the middle of a conversation of nothing when the caller caught me by surprise. I was momentarily intrigued... As we spoke I stumbled through my words; my mind's thoughts and memories began to drift.
Could it be possible that someone else understands the difference in a team sport vs. an individual sport - on a personal level? AND describe to me in detail the meaning of chocolate....
I don't share my M&M story with many people because they don't really understand the significance behind it... but this person shared a mirrored story before me....while talking about family slide shows!! I was speechless.
If I could thank this person for these simple memories I would... I'd send them a little chocolate and a big hug! Not knowing if that'll ever happen I'm going to enjoy a small bag of candy....
Daddy these M&Ms are for you.

Dating 101

In Olympia Washington, my friend told me that I really need to start seeing people.... She signed me up for a dating website and I simply looked at her and said... Debbie I have chocolate! Walking to the kitchen she laughed behind me.

I know a good chocolate from a bad chocolate. I can smell a wine and tell if its good. I can sing Blue Moon out of tune in the shower and smile, and dance however I want in the still of the night.

It has been years, I've met many nice people, but no one that actually caught my attention....

Is my chocolate love affair so bad? It makes people happy, opens unbelievable doors and a few windows. Children smile, women become blissful, and men... well a little hopeful (especially when they are with their girl and read the back of the chocolate and wine packet ;).

As for me, why should I jump just to jump? So until a man who can turn my mind away from chocolate comes along... I will sip on a peppermint cream and delight in every moment!!

1 pint whipping cream
2 tsp peppermint
1/2 bag Traveler's Chocolate (made with water to a sauce)

Whip the cream, add peppermint, add Traveler's chocolate. Just rinse it off, use a gentle cleanser and finish with a moisturizer. Any fondue that I can remember - not even with my own chocolate. When I got home I made a white cake. When it was hot from the oven, I placed it on an oven mitt in the middle of the table where my children and I enjoyed the warm and soft treat. The big boys were getting ready to leave for a tennis party and that is when it hit. I tell everyone how wonderful Traveler's Chocolate is for fondue and yet I've never actually had it.

I had Traveler's chocolate poured over fruit
in and on my pancakes
on my steak
to drink
as a face mask
in my cereal
"raw"
as a brownie
chocolate lava
on chicken
in a salad
with bell peppers
as finger paint
I made chocolate lipstick and kissed my son's cheek to leave a chocolate kiss mark
Raspberry fudge
blackberry fudge
with bananas
with cheese
on apple pie
on cherry pie
rhubarb and chocolate sauce for ice cream
even as a dip
and the list goes on
but I have never had it formally as fondue.

I do not know why, but I am scared of the idea of fondue. So tonight I will prepare myself to make the next jump in culinary excitement and enter this world. A melting pot of chocolate, little skewers, mini marshmallows, and some peanut butter to add a little depth. My youngest son and I will build a fort in our living room, bring in a lamp and blanket and I'll read to him while we snack on Traveler's fondue.

Here's to happy chocolate thoughts!!

Chocolate Wars

In every part of life there is a little adventure. This morning our adventure took a chocolate turn. Unloading our car from a trip to Spokane WA, the first thing that hit me was a wave of chocolate aroma. The smell penetrated the air slowly, overtaking the ozone left by the morning rain. Next I'm hit with blackberry and raspberry tones; the essences swirl though the open chocolate currents. The power of the chocolate actually ignites the still waking energy within me and guides me into action. The car is now empty, ready for its next assignment: bringing a large wagon, 10 pounds of flour and empty milk jug to 4th grade covered wagon expedition to the park.

A Chocolate Blanky

The last week was a farewell to our family as we knew it. Exploring the San Juan Islands and hiking the forests along the Hood Canal made for a great send off.
On Friday my son graduates, although this is a wonderful event it also represents a dynamic change; the beginning of a new chapter. So as I write this the Muppets sing quietly along while fond memories play in my thoughts.

"Saying goodbye, going away
Seems like goodbye's such a hard thing to say
Touching our hands, wondering why
It's time for saying goodbye.

Saying goodbye, why is it sad?
Makes us remember the good times we've had
Much more to say, foolish to try
It's time for saying goodbye.

Don't want to leave, but we both know
Sometimes its better to go
Somehow I know, we'll meet again
Not sure quite where and I don't know just when

You're in my heart, so until then
It's time for saying goodbye.

Somehow I know, we'll meet again
Not sure quite where and I don't know just when
You're in my heart so until then
Wanna smile
Wanna cry
Saying goodbye

La la la la, la la la la
It's time for saying goodbye
La la la la, la la la la
La la la la-la la la."
Lyrics: Saying Goodbye, Muppets

The Chocolate Blanky:
1 ripe banana sliced
1/3 cup Traveler's Rich melted in 1/4 cup water (together in the microwave)
Put the sliced bananas in a bowl and blanket the chocolate sauce on top.

Simply comforting.

When it Rains

I am not sure if giving all you have in all you do can offset disappointment when the end result turns out to be 180 degrees from what you worked for. I vividly remember measuring everything and mixing it all up by hand. In the oven went the cake. While the cake was baking I made the frosting. Once the sugar was added to the cocoa powder I began sampling. The flavor had to be just right. This was my very first attempt at a gourmet cake. My mother was and is a master in the kitchen. Her kitchen talent grew every year and I wanted to be like her and share that gift.

When the cake finished I put the bottom layer on the plate. Then I put a layer of frosting. The top layer of cake next and as I was trying to complete the frosting the top cake layer kept sliding all over. Unfortunately, when you try to frost a cake fresh out of the oven the frosting melts like crazy and soon I had a chocolate blob.

Just as I thought I'd throw this attempt in the garbage my mom walked in. She tasted my cake with attention and care one would give the finest foods. We both laughed and have never forgotten the mudslide cake.

Yesterday, I realized I'd given out directions for a Traveler's Brownie. Then last night remembered I'd forgotten a few key ingredients. So I made the recipe as it was and the result made me smile. Considering the Mudslide was a two layer cake and this was supposed to be brownies we'll call it Lava.

I do not even know where to begin on it's flavor or texture. First imagine warm chocolate. The base it is thick almost like a custard, it is dark like a midnight sky and the warm soft chocolate pieces highlight the depth like the stars.

1 1/2 cups Traveler's
1/3 cup water
1/4 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp butter
350 degree oven
spread in greased 8x8 pan
Bake17 minutes
Eat while warm and smile!!! Not the person kind of quack but a real one. The quack of our duck Qwackers. It was just about 5:00 and the sun was just making its way into the east sky. And there is was again...QUACK. Getting out of bed, grabbing my robe I make my way down stairs. Immediately upon opening the front door there she was sticking her neck inside as if she's saying, "Well aren't you going to invite me in?"

Smiling I took Qwacks back to her house, this woke the horses who moved from their barn to the gate looking for a treat, the cats emerged from their hiding places and the bunnies were already eating dew moistened grass. I let the dogs out and noticed a few weeds in the gravel and pulled them. One thing led to another and by 6:30 I'd cleaned the barn, gathered brush that had fallen in the wind and put that in our leaf burn pile, did a burn (no marshmallows), filled in several holes in the pasture dug by the dogs in search of a mole, checked on the kittens, repaired the fence, walked the yard, and made breakfast.

This morning we had scrambled eggs, toast, and chocolate apple. My friend owns Middleton Organics Farms and brought cider and Apples Galore (apples in a jar :). I put the apples in a bowl, their hints of cinnamon, delicate sauce and a sprinkle of Rich/Original Traveler's Chocolate helped create a refreshing bite of summer.

Have a wonderful day!

A chocolate angel

Rain awoke me this morning; its patter on the rock pathway outside my window, the sound of droplets adding their touch to the river at the end of the path. I just stayed in bed looking out the window watching the leaves bend with the weight of water just before the water falls off to hit the leaf below making its way to the ground in a practiced pattern. I eventually rolled out of bed and tied my robe as I made my way to wake my son for school. Rainy days have a way of bring a sense of peace throughout the house. The air feels clean and fresh and quiet. Entering my son's room and golden ray touched the pillow next to the little boy snuggled beneath his white down comforter. My heart lifted as we shared a silent moment together. Just as I reached out to rub his back in an attenpt to wake him up, my eyes caught a note which read:
"If I don't wake up pour a cup of cold water on me."

There is a little mischief inside every angel.

MINI CHOCOLATE CHIP ANGEL CAKES
11 egg whites, 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons cake flour, 1 1/2 cups sugar, 1 1/4 tsp cream of tartar, 1/2 tsp salt, 1 tsp vanilla, 4 ounces chocolate buttons (ground), 1 cup confectioners' sugar, 2 tbsp milk, Place egg whites in a large mixing bowl and allow to stand at room temperature 30 to 60 minutes. That is until this weekend. The days began early as the fresh aromas of sweet blooming jasmine entered the room through the open window. I joyfully worked in the garden beds, found patience while battling Bermuda grass, and sat so still under the almond trees the bunnies came out of their hiding place in the barn to join me. The strawberries are pink, the raspberries are budding, the cherries are abundant, the pears are growing, the plums are green, and the almonds are everywhere. Gazing into the cherry trees a memory came to life. As a little girl I sit in the cherry tree with my very best friend and eat until our tummies were content!
For dinner we had a little taste of summer. Using pastry shells I cut and shaped them into silver dollars then filled them with fresh whipped cream and some with chocolate cream. Then I garnished them with fresh fruit and served them along with sun tea and mint.

The Spicy Cowboy

For weeks we have watched our horses graze the pasture. We have calmed their fears and have formed trust. Still the breaking of wild horses is delicate. It is not quite the wild yelling and whipping you see in the movies - at least not around here. Yesterday my son and his friend went out and palled around with them and got the notion to mount up - bareback. Sporting courage my son gently brought a horse to the fence while treating him with carrots while his friend slipped onto the horses back. Leading the horse with his arm around the underneath of the horses head they began to walk. As things looked good my son lowered his arm and..... off they went meandering to look for fresh grasses. The rider made it 10 feet before slipping off. And the brave cowboys approached the kitchen bar with stories to tell over a glass of milk and spicy chocolate nachos.

Corn chips

Spicy Traveler's Chocolate (1/4 cup T.C. and 2 tbsp water heated together in the microwave 15 seconds - then stirred and poured over the chips).

The picnic table

The picnic table in the tree yard highlights memories hidden on most days. It never fails, right when you think things are in order something shows up that needs attention. Right now it is the windows. The seals are broken and the fog is fixed.

Of course foggy windows had me begin thinking about chocolate. The first few times I tried to temper chocolate resulted in foggy ugly looking instantly melting chocolate. I had imagined a beautiful truffle, or caramel, or bar. A dark glossy smooth result that would shine in my eyes like the brightest star. But Blah! Over and over again I could not produce the result I wanted. I read books, got a small tempering pot (that seriously over cooked the chocolate), all to no luck - well maybe a hit one in a thousand. I felt like Charlie Brown flying a kite.

The windows need replacing. There is no question about that. So beautiful chocolate is what my nerves need when thinking about the upcoming cost. In my kitchen there is a large tub filled with Traveler's chocolate. On this day I did nothing to it. I grabbed a spoon and scooped. I placed the chocolate powder in my mouth and let it sit there as my palate moistened. The chocolate began to melt and dissolve, it was like imagining the fog lifting from the windows and sunlight, bright and crisp, shining through.

Just what I needed.

Tom Sawyer

Sometimes I wonder the thoughts and images that float through the mind of a little boy when he is exploring. So I made some mini pie crusts, tart size. I gave my littlest boy the reins; whipping cream, Travelers, all natural raspberry lollipops, and basically what ever he needed.

Getting the kitchen aid out of the corner, he chose the flat beater, one tablespoon of butter. He used a half cup of HOT water, a cup and a half of Traveler's and started mixing. The chocolate melted down well - a few pieces remained :)

He added the whipping cream - really too warm to thicken up. He replaced the flat beater with the whisk and started the machine back up. Of course he turned it on full blast and the hum of the motor raised as did the smile on his face.

He kind of spooned (poured) the mixture into the pie shells and put them in the fridge. About 15 minutes later he put them in the freezer.

And for dessert this evening we had homemade mini ice cream pie with lollipops stuck on top.

Does this have chocolate in it?

Sitting around the dinner table last night - we played guess what is in the food. Yes, we have fun trying to guess flavors and seasonings. Our drink last night was a cranberry and fresh lemon drink. And my 16 year old looked into his glass and tasted it, then said "did you put chocolate in this?". Nope.

We had ribs and rice as our main course. Guess where the chocolate was? Yes, the rice. Who would have thought dirty rice would taste so good. I think what many people don't know is that chocolate actually enhances flavors. I only used about 1 tblsp of Traveler's in the rice. I mixed it in as I turned the heat down to simmer. It really does bring out the flat taste of rice, but when eaten along with the ribs - the flavor is enhanced.

Everyone cleaned their plates and went outside for a bike ride. It is going to be weird when my oldest is in college next year. When the boys were very little, I'd brush their teeth and put them in the bike trailer and tell them stores as we road the quiet streets. By the time we were home they'd be drifting off to sleep. As time continued on they learned to ride on their own and soon life cut our rides out completely.

Over the last year we dusted the handle bars off and we ride "to the stop sign and back" - about 5 miles. It feels like we are ending the same way we began. I am so thankful my boys still enjoy these simple things.

As we ride, I feel like a mama duck with her three ducklings surrounding her, with one whose just got his flight feathers.

The Grape Juice Chocolate

If chocolate and wine go together, then what about chocolate and grape juice? For this experiment I used Traveler's Rich chocolate and Welshes Concord grape juice and again with the white grape juice.

I used about 3/4 cup juice and 2 1/2 tablespoons Traveler's chocolate. I heated them both up in the microwave stirring every 10-15 seconds. I didn't want to overheat the sugars or the chocolate.

Now if you are a sweet tooth then you will like if not love this drink!! It was too sweet for me! One of the first things I think of in the morning is chocolate. Today, after last night's yogurt and chocolate lobby party, I showered and went right for the Traveler's bag. I had a little tasting spoon and scooped some out to just eat as is.

There is something about waking up and knowing that no matter what you can start off with something special. As I ate my tiny spoon full of chocolate powder it dawned on me, when I do this I am actually taking the time to stop and savor the moment... right where I am.

And as I am writing this I am sitting on the hotel bed... the room filled with chocolate chaos... and to my left is a simple reflection of peace, my sleeping son.

The three day stretch

This week I have been on the road. Currently in Kent Washington. My son and shared lunch at Fondi and enjoyed some of their flat bread. We decided to try a spicy Traveler's sauce on the flat bread with pieces of fresh mozzarella cheese. We definitely caught the attention of others.

Chocolate is such an easy way to meet people.

Checking into the hotel the receptionist asked what we were doing in the area and my son quickly stated chocolate. Well the receptionist and guests started a whole conversation that lasted 10 minutes at least.

Tonight we are meeting in the lobby and sharing a simple snack. We've bought vanilla yogurt and are putting Traveler's rich powder directly on top. I am willing to bet it tastes like chocolate chip cookie dough (I'll let you know tomorrow)!

Food Show Down

Yesterday after our visit to Columbia Crest I took my boys home and ran to the auto repair to get my breaks and rotors done.

Making small talk to the men beside me our conversation went to food. The Food Network was on the television mounted high on the wall. The show playing was a food showdown. Shrimp and grits. We were all drooling within 10 minutes. Then a showdown for fried chicken came on and again my tummy grumbled with desire.

After paying for the car I drove to the grocery store where I picked up "fresh" chicken and grits. At home I made my own flour for the chicken, I used Jonny's Dock seasoning, paprika, and a touch of baking soda. I rinsed, dried, then rested the chicken in half and half for several minutes the coated the chicken in the fours mixture and fried it (each side for 8 minutes) then I placed it in a 400 degree oven for a few more.

I made the grits with cream and Jack cheese with a little chicken stock I had in the fridge.

That definitely hit the spot.

Today for lunch I pulled the grits from yesterday out and thought Traveler's. I took the Spicy Traveler's from the shelf and put about a 1/2 tablespoon on top of about a 1/2 cup of the grits and reheated them in the microwave for about 45 seconds, mixed it all up, closed my eyes, smelled them, took a spoon and placed some of the spicy chocolate cheese grits in my mouth.

I prepared to be instantly sick, but on the contrary, they were good. It was creamy, sweet from the corn and spicy from the peppers, and it was good!

With a touch of raspberry

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2ByM_TQDJzg/S8HNWvCQCdI/AAAAAAAAABA/F3-MAXsuBaY/s320/DSC04273.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5458870013816474066" />
Yesterday we spent the day at Columbia Crest winery, it was kite day. The weather was perfect for flying, the winds were strong and the air had a slight crisp feel. There was a local artist painting in the front hall and kids playing all around. People were picnicking and of course we could not forget the chocolate.
I brought some butter thin crackers (taste like a flat waffle cone),some cheesecake filling and made a rich traveler's sauce with a handful of fresh raspberries (2 cups Traveler's) and about a 4 to 1 ratio of water (Traveler's to water). I had that heating on a hot plate to keep it soft.
We spread the cheesecake on the cracker and drizzled the chocolate on top. Yummy. It was enjoyed by all those who tried it.

It was a really nice afternoon.

Midnight Brownie

I sometimes question if sleep in truly a part of the day. We live out in the country, we have one car and an uncountable amount of schedule changes.

Yesterday, was spent entirely in the car. My children were troopers. Everytime we headed for home something changed. We went from band concert, break service, to band concert to band concert to unplanned jazz concert.

The final concert of the evening gave my oldest son (18) and my youngest (9) the chance to watch Pete's Dragon in the parking lot. Concentrating on the movie actors and voices we were able to place a majority of the main characters to other Disney films.

We finally pulled into the driveway at 10:30. Remembering we have a kite flying picnic (today) and another concert (in an hour) I needed to make a snack.

The midnight brownie - no eggs
2 cups Rich Travelers Chocolate
1/2 cup flower
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup milk
1tsp baking soda

Greased and floured 8x8 pan, 350 degree oven. I melted the butter, mixed the flour in the the Traveler's and added all the other ingredients then put it into the pan. I baked it for about 18 and let it cool.

At 11:45 tasted the brownies and smiled!! The are very dark and very rich.

The Traveler's Mocha

As I reluctantly rolled out of bed at 4:00 this morning to make a dash to the airport, I decided to bring along my highschoolers so I would not have to drive all the way back home (30 minutes) and then drive all the way back into town the moment I entered the driveway.

Yes, there was a slight grumble from the boys. On the way to sit in the school parking lot until the doors opened, I found my eyes wanting to shut. The wind hushed along the windows, "Maren sleep". I pulled off the road and into the parking lot of an all night diner. I rested my head on the steering wheel for a moment and woke up. Getting out of the car I made my way to the bar where several other early risers sat quietly staring at their eggs and toast.

Not the biggest coffee drinker in the world I ordered a very week cup of Joe. Still not liking the flavor I remembered the bag of Traveler's Rich Chocolate in the car. Raising my brow in curiosity I took a plastic spoon and my coffee to the car. There I proceeded to place 2 spoonfuls into the hot liquid and to my surprise I drank the whole cup.

As the sun began to rise over the Columbia River my energy renewed and I was able to finish the morning with only one hitch..... I forgot it was garbage day.

Basic Hot Chocolate

Waking up at 5:30 to get my son to jazz band is not an easy task. I must have hit the snooze button at least three times while trying to figure out where I was. Before the alarm my dream was so peaceful, calm, and quiet. Then the trees changed colors from lightly blooming pink and white to deep dark shades of blues and reds and the air was full of BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP.

I barely made it into my sons' rooms with my eyes open (I was using the walls as guides). I pulled the covers off the kids and sent them to the showers. I found my way back to my pillow for a moment and then slid down the stairs to the kitchen.

Using my Traveler's Chocolate(T.C.) I began the morning with a very basic hot chocolate. I used two tablespoons of T.C. and 3/4 cup of boiling water. I whisked it together and Holy Mama!!!! That was an awesome way to start the day!

After driving everyone to school and the gym and then back to school, I fed the horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, and duck. I've looked at the laundry several times and made the beds.

I am still smiling about the cup of hot chocolate!

In the beginning

In the beginning there was chocolate. I know this as it has been told to me that chocolate was and is the food of the Gods! It has also been told to me that chocolate is the best replacement for men.

So as I write this, my husband is slowly packing his bags for a "trip" overseas with the United States Military (he is Navy but called by the Army for this trip) and I am playing with chocolate.

My love for chocolate began when I was very small, maybe 3 at my earliest memory. Chocolate memories always stay clear in focus. Chocolate is the connecting line from my childhood all the way into my future.

Over the last few months I developed a product made from chocolate. It is a powder (I call it Traveler's Chocolate). I am going to use Traveler's Chocolate every single day while my husband is deployed. I will make note of the recipes and results and maybe post a video for fun.

I am not a chef; I am not a chocolatier by trade. I am a mother of three boys. And that is where I have received my training in foods. Strictly on the job. So everything I do with chocolate from here on can be done by anyone.
